Walking Through Recovery | Tyler’s Story
Born into addiction as a baby, surrounded by addiction as a child, then seeking validation from his father all led Tyler down a path of substance abuse which eventually landed him in prison. Losing his family and feeling utterly hopeless, Tyler acknowledges that he hit rock bottom, “I had given up on life itself.” After a failed suicide attempt, he cried out to God and drove through the night to find help at Heartland.
Tyler credits his turnaround to surrendering his life to Jesus and trusting in others. Reunited with his family and embracing fatherhood, “I’m free to be a dad and I’m free to be a husband and I’m free to be a child of God.” His message is simple: hold on to hope. If you’re facing similar struggles, Tyler’s journey shows us that change and freedom are possible through Jesus Christ. Reach out to Heartland Recovery today and see how we can help you.

Walking Through Recovery | Jeff’s Story
Jeff began his addiction at an early age, but in his late 20s his addiction took a serious turn. He felt broken in heart, mind, and body, seeking something elusive. After a possession charge, he applied to Heartland and found hope. Through this program, he discovered truths about life, God, and himself, recognizing the need to address the core issue of sin. Jeff’s newfound purpose is to serve others and live a drug-free, meaningful life. He emphasizes trusting in God’s word and encourages others to find faith, believing that life’s true meaning lies in that relationship.
“Getting to the point where he’s going to need his mama…”
Coming from an alcoholic family, Carissa started using meth and coke at the age of 19. When she was arrested on a theft charge, she woke up to the fact that her two-year old was “getting to the point where he’s going to need his mama in his life” and realized it was time for a change. She sought help from other places before ending up at Heartland Recovery’s 12-month residential program. Here, Carissa found the support she needed in the staff at the women’s home. Through those relationships and her new-found faith in Jesus, Carissa is striving to mend relationships, make amends, and create a better future for herself and her family.
#GivingTuesday
#Giving Tuesday is Here!
Like an estimated 21 million children in our nation, Abbigail and Mike experienced life with a parent caught up in the cycle of addiction. But, thanks to their parents reaching out for help and walking through recovery, they are experiencing healing and restoration!
Substance abuse is powerful and destructive, but Heartland Recovery is here to remind you “that doesn’t have to be the end of the story.” On this #GivingTuesday, your gifts will provide a fresh start for men and women who are turning to us for help.
Heartland Recovery offers help at no charge to the men and women enrolled in our program, but they have medical and personal needs as well. Would you consider making a financial contribution to help with those day-to-day needs? When people begin to sober up, underlying medical, dental, and vision issues often come to light. Your partnership allows these needs to be met as well.
