Growing up in Hannibal, Missouri, his struggle with addiction began at an early age, trying to fit in with others, drugs were just apart of life. What started as a way to have fun turned into years of pain — “in and out of prison, doing most of my life locked up away from my children.” When he landed in county jail again, he heard about Heartland Recovery and decided to apply. Once there, he realized, “I felt like God pulled me here for a reason.” Through the program and classes like Disciplines of Life, Howard discovered the joy of serving others, learning that a Christlike life means walking in humility and service — just as Jesus did.
Now, Howard walks in faith, trusting that God has his future in hand. His relationships with his family have been restored, and he’s learning to live free from addiction — building connections and purpose on a solid foundation in Christ.
